Lecturer / Senior Lecturer Publishing

Bath Spa University

About the role

As part of our ambitions for Publishing at Bath Spa University, we want to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer who can combine their professional experience with the critical insights and perspectives derived from research and teaching, particularly in the field of Children’s Publishing.

The successful candidate will play an important role in developing the knowledge and skills of our Publishing students, with a focus on redeveloping our innovative MA in Children’s Publishing, including through closer collaboration with a parallel MA in Writing for Young People. They will also work as part of the wider team to provide professional mentorship, robust assessment, student support, and a high-level of learning and teaching, supported by industry-informed expertise.

There are opportunities to contribute to the development of our provision within the School and across the University as a whole, including through the creation of short courses and the potential to embed Publishing skills across the curriculum.

About you (requirements)

You will have professional experience in publishing, drawn from a variety of roles, as well as critical awareness of current issues and challenges in the industry. You will have a demonstrable commitment to publishing for children and young people, and a keen awareness of the potential for working with other specialists in developing this area of work. Ideally, you will also have previous experience of supporting learning in higher education or other relevant contexts, and the ambition to bring together your professional expertise and an enthusiasm for learning and teaching – how these two careers might be mutually supportive for you and our students.

About us

Bath Spa University is focused on creativity and professionalism.  We are guided by our four values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and sustainability. We teach around 8,000 students on several campuses around Bath, with most being located at Newton Park, a culturally significant landscape on the edge of the city, or Locksbrook Road, our new city-centre art and design campus.  Our research centres focus on the creative industries and humanities.
Our purpose is to challenge our students and staff to realise their talent and thrive, for their own benefit and for the wider good. By doing this we will think and make the world better.
