Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Biostatistics

• Full-time, 5 year fixed-term position located at Camperdown Campus

• Opportunity to make a significant contribution to teaching in Biostatistics and conduct research in your area of expertise at the Sydney School of Public Health

• Academic Level B or C, Base salary ranging from $113,645 p.a. – $156,867 p.a. + 17% superannuation

The Sydney School of Public Health is a network of researchers, research groups and centres that facilitate the study of public health. The school is widely known for its strengths in biostatistics and epidemiology.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Biostatistics (equivalent to US Assistant Professor) to make a significant contribution to our teaching and research programs. This is an outstanding opportunity for an academic with a developing or established track record in biostatistics to continue their professional development with a school renowned for its high-quality research and teaching. The successful applicant will contribute to teaching introductory and advanced biostatistical units offered for several degrees by the School of Public Health, and develop a program of methodologic, applied, and collaborative research.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Develop, revise, coordinate, deliver, and assess introductory and advanced biostatistics units of study to postgraduate students enrolled in biostatistics, public health and clinical epidemiology degrees, using both face to face and on-line delivery

• contribute to research that enhances the profile of the school, including publication in journals of high standing, pursuing research grants, and presenting and disseminating research findings through appropriate channels

• foster productive relationships and collaborations within the University and with external parties (including research partners, government and professional bodies, and industry)

• contribute to academic administration

• supervise Master of Biostatistics research projects and higher degree research students.

About you

• A higher degree in an academic field relevant to the discipline – preferably a PhD with background in biostatistics, statistics, health data science, or similar

• an active research program with demonstrable potential for future publication (Lecturer level) or a well-established program (Senior Lecturer level)

• high-quality research outputs as lead author, senior author, or as a key member of a collaborative team

• an interest in developing methodological research in biostatistics, with preference for one or more of the following areas: causal inference, machine learning, Bayesian statistics, advanced trial design

• experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings

• statistical programming experience with software such as R, Stata, SAS, or Python

• ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work

• demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision

• excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters.
