Lecturer/Senior Lecturer History

Bath Spa University

Interview Date:                        2 or 9 November 2022

About the role

This is an opportunity to join a small, creative History team whose work coalesces around the concept of ‘public history’ and the importance of historical enquiry in a wide range of contexts inside and outside the university. This include might involve collaboration with partners in the museums and heritage sector and the creative industries, community-based practice, or the role of history in the formulation of public policy. We want our students to develop their historical skills but also to think about how and where they might apply their knowledge, insights and understanding, and the different ways in which they might communicate these to and for different audiences. The role involves teaching undergraduate and postgraduate course, PhD supervision, and curriculum development and innovation, underpinned by partnerships and public engagement.

About you

You will be active in the field of public history as a researcher and a practitioner, comfortable in working across disciplinary boundaries as well as within them, and an effective collaborator with internal and external partners. Our courses are practical, professional and applied, and you will bring a clear understanding of how this works in and through the study of History, public debate about the past, and the creative use of historical evidence and analysis. You will be able to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including our highly-regarded MA in Heritage Management, and to PhD supervision.
