The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music at the University of Melbourne is home to the Victorian College of the Arts and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. About the Role
The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music seeks to appoint an accomplished wind ensemble conductor with a national or international profile to lead the Wind Symphony program and enhance conductor training. Appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Associate Professor will reflect the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, and profile.

Responsibilities include:

• Directing the Conservatorium’s two large wind ensembles
• Collaborating with colleagues who direct other wind/brass/percussion ensembles
• Leading curriculum development and delivery in conducting studies
• Contributing to student assessment, recruitment, and graduate supervision engagement with the community and the profession.

About You
You will be an outstanding musician with a doctoral degree in wind conducting, and a record of effective and multifaceted teaching in ensemble, performance, and conductor training. You will bring imaginative, innovative, and effective approaches to ensemble and conducting studies, achieving international standards of performance excellence and programming diversity with the Conservatorium’s Wind Symphony and Concert Band, and will foster high quality in other woodwind/brass/percussion ensembles in the Conservatorium. 

You will also have:

• Doctoral qualification in wind conducting, and a demonstrated record of expertise and accomplishment in wind symphony and large ensemble conducting
• Extensive knowledge of the wind band repertoire, established and new, including canonical works and works that represent diverse voices, idioms, and traditions
• A strong track record or evident potential to contribute to performance-led research in music performance and enhance the research profile and output of the Conservatorium

Additional criteria for appointment to Level C

• Evidence of established national or international reputation as a conductor
• An established successful record of wind ensemble leadership and conducting teaching in a major university setting, and proven success in high-quality ensemble and program development, and student recruitment

 Additional criteria for appointment to Level D

• International activity and reputation as a conductor of elite level wind ensembles
• A leading record of invited contributions to national and international concert series, festivals, conferences
• A record of diverse contributions to curriculum development and to service and leadership at the Conservatorium, Faculty, or University level, enhancing program development, strategic planning, and public profile
