The Sydney School of Health Sciences is committed to educating people-centric physiotherapists through a ‘scaffolded’ degree structure that helps build clinical experience over time.

Applied research in physiotherapy at the University of Sydney is aimed at improving evidence-based treatment and prevention strategies to improve the lives of people with physical disorders or disabilities. Our research staff supports higher degree research candidates to develop research expertise.

The School is in a period of exciting and significant investment by the Faculty of Medicine and Health. In order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, the University is seeking academics who are passionate about improving health outcomes and/or health equity in the local, national and global communities, who are committed to teaching and research and are a team player ready to contribute across the broad field of academic activities. The positions offer opportunities to develop and contribute to research and teaching in physiotherapy as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Faculty of Medicine and Health. We are looking to onboard two Lecturers (Teaching and Research) – in a fixed term and continuing compacity – the incumbent will be located in the Susan Wakil Health building on the Camperdown Campus.

To be successful you will have clinical expertise in one or more of the following areas of physiotherapy:  musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary or neurological physiotherapy.

Your key responsibilities

  • Apply learnings and knowledge from research and scholarly activity to inform educational practice and reform
  • engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences (at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels)
  • provide training to other academic staff on pedagogical practice and/or research skills
  • develop research collaborations that will ultimately result in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialisation, improved policy or practice, and/or enhancements to industry, the profession or the community
  • undertake original research (either independently or as part of a team) within discipline or area of expertise
  • build and maintain a research profile
  • apply learnings through research and scholarly activity to inform their education and research practice
  • make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within the School/ Faculty while continuing to build their research contribution, expertise, and impact.

About you

  •  PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline; clinical qualifications and experience in physiotherapy
  • have a developing research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in the discipline or area of expertise
  • experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
  • clinical expertise in at least one of the following areas of physiotherapy:  musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary, or neurological physiotherapy
  • demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
  • a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector
  • have a developed network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners, and stakeholders.
