The School of Law at the University of Aberdeen wishes to appoint 2 x 1.0FTE Lecturers in Law to join its growing team.  We would particularly welcome applications from candidates having an interest in one or more of the following areas:

  • Criminal Law, Criminal Justice and/or Criminology;
  • Family Law;
  • The Law of Evidence; and/or
  • Public International Law generally.

Applications are welcome from candidates on either the Teaching and Research or Teaching and Scholarship career track, and from candidates wishing to work part-time.

The School of Law is an ambitious School with a long history of high-quality teaching and research.  We regularly rank in the Top 20 UK Law Schools (11 in The Good University Guide, 2022) and rank in the Top 100 of Law Schools Internationally (99 in the World University Rankings 2022).  We are committed to equality and diversity and hold an Athena Swan Bronze Award.  We have a supportive research culture, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in one or more of the School’s Research Centres, namely, the Centre for Private International Law, the Centre for Commercial Law, the Centre for Constitutional and Public International Law, the Centre for Energy Law and the Centre for Scots Law.

We were fifth placed for Law in the 2022 NSS exercise.  A varied Graduate programme is offered including a range of taught Masters’ degrees including LLMs in Criminal Law and International Law.  Some of our programmes are offered by online distance learning as well as on campus. The School also has a strong PhD training programme and vibrant postdoctoral research community.

In view of the School’s plans for internationalisation and online learning, some foreign travel and/or engagement in distance learning activities may be required. 

Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 7, £43,414 – £51,805 per annum (pro-rata for part-time appointments), and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
