About the Role

The Islamic studies program at the Asia Institute offers a range of courses in the areas of Islamic thought and Muslim societies from a broad multidisciplinary perspective. Dedicated academic staff offer courses ranging from Islamic politics in South/Southeast Asia and the Middle East to Islamic culture, philosophy, and history; Qur’anic studies; human rights in Muslim societies; and interreligious relations. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Subject coordination and delivery, including supervision of tutors
  • Administrative tasks associated with the subjects taught; including consultation with students, marking, and assessment;
  • Supervision of honours and postgraduate students, as required.
  • Curriculum design and innovation that contributes to strengthening Islamic Studies with a particular focus on Islam and politics

About You

You will be an experienced lecturer, with a passion for continuous improvement and specialising in an area relevant to Islam and politics. You will be able to draw on your excellent interpersonal and communication to work effectively as part of a team and engage with a variety of stakeholders including industry, government, research groups, and diverse student cohorts.

You will also have:

  • A completed Ph.D. in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated ability for excellence in teaching in politics and Islam/Muslim societies, including course coordination, lecturing, tutoring, and the capacity to initiate course development
  • Ability to supervise honours and postgraduate theses
  • Demonstrated expertise in new media technologies in teaching, including online curriculum development.
