The Department of Accounting, Finance and Economic offers internationally recognised degrees in accounting, banking, business law, business statistics, economics, finance, financial planning and taxation. Our program allows you to major in one or more of these fields. The Department has a strong and active research focus, with a number of staff holding external research grants and a history of successful PhD student completions with attractive employment outcomes.  The accounting discipline undertakes cutting edge, high quality and impactful research, covering a range of areas including corporate governance, auditing, financial reporting, management accounting, financial crime and corporate disclosures including issues around ESG / CSR. Our research focus has broadened from investigating publicly listed entities to private, not for profit and indigenous entities, an under-researched area in the past. Members of the discipline have been successful in publishing in several esteemed and high-quality journals and the discipline has a strong focus to deliver impactful research by engaging with industry, accounting firms, government and social communities that we serve. All of the accounting programs offered by the department are fully accredited by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and CPA Australia. The department maintains a strong association with accounting professional bodies such as CPA Australia, CAANZ and ACCA.

About the Opportunity
As a Lecturer in Forensic Accounting, you will help deliver a programme of work in the newly established Griffith Academy of Financial Crime Investigations and Compliance (FCIC) within the Griffith Business School. 

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Deliver innovative and interdisciplinary research and postgraduate & corporate education opportunities to meet critical industry needs across the financial crime operations and compliance space.
  • Deliver application-based study that gives students hands-on understanding of financial audit and financial crime investigation processes.
  • Specialist in forensic accounting to assist with developing new data-driven methods and processes that help organisations and investigators better identify and report financial crime.

This role also includes preparing material for the Academy’s industry stakeholders and for publication, and participation in teaching and the supervision of HDR students. Success in this role requires collaboration with the Academy, the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics, and external industry partners.

This is full time, continuing position based at the Nathancampus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University, there may be a requirement for you to work across other campus locations.

About You
To be successful within this role, you will be highly committed to teaching excellence and will actively engage in empirical research in your field with the aim of publishing in high-quality journals.

In addition to the above, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience in teaching and learning in accounting including evidence of familiarity with blended learning and an ability to achieve high quality student outcomes via online teaching.
  • Expertise in the following areas are preferred: forensic accounting and risk management and governance (in financial crime), auditing and financial reporting.
  • Industry experience in managing risks and in investigating financial crime (money laundering (AML), terrorism financing, corruption and due diligence, non-compliance using advanced technology/ data analytics is highly desirable.
  • Track record of working with industry stakeholders, a strong record of publications and being team player.

Salary Range 
The base salary for a Lecturer (Level B) position is in the range $100,137 – $118,916 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. The total package is in the range $117,160 – $139,132 per annum.
