We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with appropriate education and disciplinary experience for post of Lecturer on the King’s Academic Education Pathway (AEP) with a focus on teaching and strengthening our mechanical engineering theme. The post-holder will design, deliver, and coordinate teaching and learning as well as undertaking education research and scholarship to enhance the student experience.
We are a general Engineering department with undergraduate courses in Electronic and General Engineering. Our students follow a core curriculum for the first two years which includes 4 multidisciplinary group design projects which support our developing pedagogy through ideation, integration, inspiration and innovation. Students are taught in our new student learning spaces at the heart of Strand Campus which includes makerspace and laboratory spaces.
This role will work in partnership with students, academic colleagues, and members of technical staff. You will ideally be able to develop and deliver practical mechanical engineering education and/or be experienced in computer-aided design and simulation.
As well as the delivered teaching, the role-holder will build scholarship which enhances the student and staff learning experience: identifying and leading initiatives to enhance our education offering. The Academic Education Pathway offers a framework for recognition, reward and opportunities for advancement for exceptional educators with regular faculty events and workshops focussed on education and student experience.

Essential criteria
1. Subject-specific qualification in mechanical engineering or related disciplines
2. PhD in relevant subject or equivalent experience to support a general Engineering foundation
3. Knowledge of a variety of approaches to teaching and learning
4. Knowledge of issues relating to student experience, engagement, progression, and achievement
5. Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion in practise and activity
6. Evidence of successful teaching and learning
7. Personable, open and collaborative
8. Excellent task management skills both for self and others – ability to meet deadlines
Desirable criteria
1. Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
2. Experience of delivering successful problem-based and/or practical learning in Mechanical Engineering
3. Experience in Engineering design, making and appropriate software (CAD, FEM etc)
