The School of Social Sciences has a long-established track record in teaching and research relating to various academic disciplines including sociology, criminology, psychology, social work as well as peace and development studies. The Department of Sociology and Criminology, within the School of Social Sciences at the University of Bradford, recruits strongly for the University and contributes to its REF submission.

We are seeking to appoint on a permanent basis, 2 motivated and enthusiastic Lecturers in Sociology and/or Criminology. This successful candidate will be working within a team of highly skilled and motivated academics to strengthen the subject within the School and Faculty.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Sociology, Criminology or a related field. You will contribute to existing degree programmes, including our Foundation Year and Undergraduate degrees. You should have evidence of being able to deliver excellent and research informed learning and teaching at undergraduate and post graduate levels, and have a desire to undertake doctoral level supervision. In order to deliver research informed teaching, evidence of scholarship in Sociology and Criminology is essential. Candidates from all specialisms within Sociology and Criminology are eligible to apply for this post, but we particularly welcome academics who have experience and interest in developing both these areas, as well as research and teaching that relates to ethnic relations, criminal justice, cybercrime and inequalities more generally. We would also welcome academics with experience of working in the Criminal Justice System or related fields.

Along with your teaching and learning responsibilities, you are expected to contribute to the Department’s continuing success through evidence of potential to publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as other outlets through which knowledge dissemination is evident. Evidence of interest and experience in relation to any of the following themes would be an advantage: ethnic relations and social policy; the sociology of crime and deviance; popular culture and consumption; crime and inequalities; desistance, offender management and probation; and policing and law enforcement.

The University of Bradford is committed to providing a supportive and developmental environment to all staff through mentoring by experienced academic colleagues and maintain effective personal development plans and processes.

As an equal opportunities employer, we value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates. However, we particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic heritage academics, as they are under-represented across the HE sector. All appointments will be made on merit.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr. Yunis Alam, Head of Sociology and Criminology (m.y.alam1@bradford.ac.uk) or Professor Peter Mitchell, Head of School of Social Sciences (p.mitchell1@bradford.ac.uk).
