Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Lecturer in Creative Practice (Interdisciplinary)
to join School of Creative Practice, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice, Academic Division.

The successful applicant will play a central role in designing and delivering Units that are core to all students across the School of Creative Practice in either the Bachelor of Fine Arts and/or the Bachelor of Creative Industries.

The successful applicant will have a strong teaching profile with demonstrated positive student feedback, a track record of research success and a reputation for excellence in industry engagement.

About the Academic Division
The Academic Division is responsible for supporting and delivering learning, teaching, research and research services to students and staff. This is realised via the Education and Research portfolios and through the work of our Faculties.
The Head of the Academic Division is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Academic), Professor Robina Xavier. Professor Xavier provides strategic oversight and financial management of the Division and provides leadership to the Education portfolio.

The Division’s Research portfolio and academic faculties, are led by the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research), Professor Christopher Barner-Kowollik.

The Faculty prepares our students for innovative roles as knowledge leaders at the nexus of design, education, communication, creative practice and social change. We pursue research with impact, and our researchers collaborate on projects in specialised research groups and facilities across disciplines and institutions.

The Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice is led by the Executive Dean and the Faculty Executive team comprising the Executive Dean, Deputy Dean, Heads of School, Associate Dean Learning and Teaching, Associate Dean Research, and Faculty Operations Manager.

The faculty is comprised of the following Schools under the leadership of the respective Head of School:
• School of Communication
• School of Creative Practice
• School of Design
• School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education
• School of Teacher Education and Leadership
• School of Justice

In addition, specialist Faculty professional functions include
• Faculty Operations: Budget and Planning, School Administration Support, Space, Equipment and Assets, and Technical Services teams under the leadership of the Faculty Operations Manager
• Office of the Deputy Dean: Engagement, and Student Specialist Support under the leadership of the Deputy Dean
• Office of the Executive Dean under the leadership of the Executive Dean

About the School of Creative Practice

The School brings together a range of creative practice disciplines, and consequently provides students with the opportunity to engage in transdisciplinary approaches to their learning and/or research activities – reflective of collaborative experiences in the real world.

The curriculum is structured around core units with additional units in the following study areas:

• Animation
• Film and Screen
• Creative Writing
• Dance
• Acting
• Drama
• Technical Production
• Music
• Visual Arts

During 2022, the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and the Bachelor of Creative Industries curriculum are being reaccredited and this presents new and exciting opportunities for the School. Our courses provide a ‘space to create’ for students, where technical proficiency is combined with learning how to make meaning, in addition to how to be collaborative, and socially engaged practitioners. Individuals wishing to further their skills and knowledge through postgraduate study, can undertake practice-led or practice-based research programs that are internationally renowned for their innovative, creative, and commercial contributions to Creative Industries and broader industry fields.

The School has established international connections including teaching and research partnerships with leading institutions and organisations across Austria, China, East Timor, France, Germany, Norway, Indonesia, South Africa, South America, United Kingdom, and the United States.

What you need to succeed

You will demonstrate:

1. Completion of a doctoral qualification.
2. A strong record of engaged and impactful research in the creative industries; evidenced for instance by publications in relevant high-quality journals; success in winning competitive research funding from key national and international funding bodies; completion of high impact research projects with government, industry, or community partners; consultancy with government, industry, commercial and/ or professional bodies.
3. Record of a strong teaching profile with demonstrated positive student feedback.
4. Demonstrated ability in learning and teaching, including scholarly and innovative approaches to learning and teaching as well as successful supervision of higher degree research students in the relevant area(s).
5. Demonstrated track record of success in establishing and maintaining multidisciplinary teaching and research project collaborations with industry, community, and/or government partners in the arts, education, social services, health, and/or other sectors, both nationally and internationally.
6. Demonstrated highly developed organisational and project management skills, with evidence of project completions.
7. Demonstrated expertise in entrepreneurial, experimental, and community-engaged creative practice, including, digital creative practices, and immersive media technologies (virtual, augmented, mixed, and extended reality).
8. Expertise in one or more of the study areas (Film, Screen & Animation, Visual Arts, Music, Acting & Drama, Dance, Technical Production, Creative Writing) that aligns with and builds on School disciplinary strengths.
