Lecturer in Computer Science (Teaching Focussed)

University of Leicester

About the role
We are looking for two teaching-focused lecturers in computer science and expect one of the successful candidates will take a programme leader role for one of our computing programmes. You will lead and support the excellent learning and student experience of the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences. You will contribute towards these key student-focussed activities:
– Development and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate modules. This includes lectures, assessments, marking and laboratories.
– Supervising group and individual student projects.
– Personal tutoring to provide personal support to students throughout their time with us.
– Leading and contributing to administrative roles that support the learning environment in our schools (e.g., outreach, placements, admissions)

Our teaching is based on the research and scholarship of learning and teaching. You will develop and maintain your understanding of both the fundamentals of how adults learn, and current trends in higher education. As a teaching-focussed lecturer you will be expected not only to apply your understanding of pedagogy to your work, but also to develop and share research in learning and teaching, for example in areas of assessment, employability, enterprise, student partnership and active learning. You will be supported in this work by a team of other teaching-focussed colleagues.
You will work in a very supportive environment with teaching mentoring. At the heart of the UK, the University of Leicester is a research-intensive university. Different areas of activity are balanced by a workload model to ensure fair and transparent balance between staff and different areas of activity.
About you
You are student-focussed with a sincere desire to help each student to achieve their full potential. You will recognise each student as an individual, with their own goals, motivations, and challenges. You will see yourself as a partner in the education of our students, valuing their input and willing to challenge and support them as required to make the most of their university experience.
You are a confident, proactive teacher. You will boldly innovate and be willing to challenge yourself and others to provide the best education for the current and future generations of students. You will continually seek to improve and to share your passion for education with students and colleagues.
You will make the success of the school a priority, when necessary, putting aside your own needs for the good of others, knowing that colleagues are doing this too. As a team player you will positively encourage and motivate others, recognising the value of your own contribution and that of others.
