Lecturer in Computational Linguistics

The Computational Linguistics program in the Department of Computer Science at Brandeis University seeks an instructor for the course COSI 140B–Natural Language Annotation for Machine Learning (4 credits) in the Spring 2023 semester.

This course is required for all second-semester Computational Linguistics MS students, and is also taken by undergraduate students underway with their study of computational linguistics.  It introduces corpus linguistics – the computational study of any naturally occurring fragment of language – which is a key area for data mining, information extraction, and machine learning. Students model, annotate, train, test, evaluate, and revise their own corpus for machine learning.  The class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:20-1:10pm.

Candidates with a PhD in hand, or who have a Master’s Degree in Computational Linguistics and are currently PhD students in Computer Science who have advanced beyond the first year of PhD study and are specializing in Computational Linguistics/Natural Language Processing, will be given preference.  Interested individuals should submit a cover letter, CV, and names and contact information for two references. This appointment is to a position that is in a collective bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local 509.
