Lecturer in Audiology (Teaching and Scholarship)

The School of Health Sciences seeks to appoint a 1.0 FTE permanent post to start in Autumn 2022.  We are looking for an exceptional, innovative individual who will be central to our position as UK leader in the provision of our Audiology education and training programmes. The University of Manchester and our extensive Clinical Educator partners are central to education and training of audiology personnel within the UK. This is demonstrated by:

our provision of the pre-registration Practitioner Training Programme (BSc),

our status as DoH preferred provider for the pre-registration Scientist Training programme (MSc), and

National lead for the post-registration Higher Specialist Scientist Training programme (D Clin Sc).

This post will support audiology research activities (equivalent of one-day per week).  The Manchester Centre for Audiology & Deafness (ManCAD).  In 2017, ManCAD were awarded £4.5m BRC Hearing Health funding for NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for 5 years. We also receive research funding from the Department of Health, UK research councils, industrial partners and charities. In 2008, Deafness Research UK designated our group as a Centre of Excellence for research that leads to benefit for people with a hearing impairment. 

We have a multidisciplinary research team which includes expertise in psychophysics, electrophysiology, neuro-imaging, signal processing, medicine, cognitive psychology and genetics. The group also has collaborative links across the university with Schools of Engineering, Social Sciences, and Medicine.

Our research underpins, and is informed by, our leading role in audiology education and audiological service delivery in the UK. Examples of this include development and implementation of universal newborn hearing screening and the modernisation of hearing aid services in the NHS. This is a unique and valuable aspect of our work, as the resultant connections and access to services position us for effective clinical and translational research.
