About This Opportunity 

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer to join the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry, in the Discipline of Classics and Ancient History. In this role, you will engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and further development of the School’s program in Classics and Ancient History, with a focus on Greek history, as well as performing administrative and other activities associated with the School.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Teaching and Learning

  • Teach undergraduate subjects in ancient history and classical languages majors.

  • Initiate and develop course material.

  • Coordinate courses.

  • Teach and supervise at honours and postgraduate level.

  • Where appropriate teach subjects in flexible-delivery mode.

  • Consult with students.

  • Provide support for other positions during absences.

Citizenship and Service

  • Perform a range of administrative functions in the School as required

  • Foster the School’s relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor

About You  

  • PhD in the field of Greek history.

  • Ability to contribute to the Greek language teaching program.

  • Ability to teach different periods of Greek history.

  • Demonstrated teaching skills at undergraduate levels and a desire to innovate in this area.

  • Preparedness to use alternative modes of teaching, digital technologies, flexible learning options.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

  • Willingness to share discipline and School administrative tasks.

  • Willingness to represent the School and the University through external service and engagement, including liaison with the community.

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

Desirable

  • Ability to teach Latin language

  • Ability to teach Roman history and/or Greek art and archaeology

  • Track record of engagement with the broader community.

What We Can Offer 

This is a full-time, fixed term position through until 31 December 2024 at Academic Level B.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $101,533 – $120,570 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $118,794 – $94,103 per annum. 

The following flexible employment options may be available for this role: ​some working from home (subject to agreement with the HOS); variable start or finish times.

About the Selection Process
