| Department Summary | International Studies is an interdisciplinary program with over 200 undergraduate majors and 30+ Masters-seeking graduate students. Students wrestle with serious global challenges of the twenty first century, in preparation for internationally-focused jobs. They explore social, political, cultural, and economic global concerns, including environmental crises and climate change, refugee and migration issues, energy resources, conflict resolution, global health, international trade, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, war and diplomacy, terrorism, development, and many other topics. Students develop skills in foreign languages and avail themselves to opportunities (such as study abroad and internships) that prepare them for jobs in public and private sectors. These jobs are concentrated in, but not limited to, government, security, development, business, non-profit organizations, regional studies, human rights, and global environmental and population issues. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba. |
| Position Summary | Responsibilities include teaching upper-level undergraduate and Master’s-level courses in the candidate’s areas of specialization; and performing program service. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in globalization, empire and its aftermath, authoritarianism, and mass politics. Otherwise, the area of specialization for this search is open. Our committee is searching for candidates who will bring innovative approaches to International Studies and will contribute to our program’s mission of preparing our students for dynamic, internationally-focused careers. |
| Minimum Qualifications | ABD in International Studies or related field(s), including, but not limited to: Political Science, History, Sociology, Anthropology, International Relations, Economics, Media Arts, Geography, or other relevant disciplines required. |
