Department Summary The WGST Program at the University of North Texas
UNT’s Women’s & Gender Studies Program centers intersectional feminist education, research, and advocacy. It has a multi-disciplinary, integrative, theoretically diverse curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The program houses rapidly growing undergraduate minors in Women’s & Gender Studies and LGBTQ Studies, in addition to a master’s degree in Women’s & Gender Studies.
As a community, we foster the development of analytical skills by engaging the intersections of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, ability, and nation in order to promote responsible citizenship in a diverse global environment. With 50+ affiliated faculty spanning a wide variety of disciplines, UNT’s Women’s & Gender Studies Program provides a home for interdisciplinary teaching, research, and community outreach. The program aims to develop collaborative leadership, scholarship, and social justice activism.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Summary The Women’s & Gender Studies Program at the University of North Texas seeks applicants for a Multi-year Lecturer position beginning in the 2023-2024 Academic Year. We seek a teacher-scholar, who can demonstrate their ability to teach introductory, upper-division, and graduate level courses in Women’s and Gender Studies. A master’s degree, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in women’s, gender, and/or sexuality studies, or closely related field is required at the time of appointment. A Ph.D. in women’s, gender, and/or sexuality studies, or closely related field is preferred. 
The successful candidate should have a strong record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This includes experience teaching courses related to Women’s & Gender Studies and relevant curricular development. The successful candidate’s expertise in teaching and research should contribute to enhancing the WGST program’s multiracial, multiethnic, multiregional, and multigender scope. They should demonstrate experience in and commitment to mentoring historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups and first-generation college students. 
 
This position is responsible for teaching four (4) courses in the Fall semester and four (4) courses in the Spring semester. Summer teaching opportunities may be available. The successful candidate should be qualified to teach WGST courses required of the program’s minors and graduate students including:

  • Introduction to Women’s & Gender Studies (undergraduate);
  • Introduction to LGBTQ Studies (undergraduate);
  • Feminist Foundations (upper-level undergraduate);
  • Gender & Popular Culture (upper-level undergraduate);
  • Queer Theory (blended upper-level undergraduate/ graduate);
  • Feminist & Womanist Theories (graduate); and
  • Feminist Methods (graduate).

While we welcome all areas of expertise, the successful candidate should demonstrate a deeply intersectional approach to their pedagogy. We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching highlight one or more of the following areas: LGBTQ+ feminisms, feminist social justice/activism, transnational/diaspora studies, Latinx/Chicanx feminist studies, Black/womanist feminist studies, Indigenous feminist studies, citizenship and border theories, and feminist/womanist pedagogies. Experience in community-based research and in organizing/training for social justice activism is desirable. There may be opportunities for course development in the candidate’s area of expertise.
