The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at Baycrest Health Sciences and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, are seeking to recruit a qualified full-time movement disorder neurologist with an academic position description of Academic Clinician or Clinician Teacher. The scope of clinical activities will include in-person and virtual care in Baycrest’s Movement Disorders Clinic.
The successful candidate must be eligible for a Full-Time Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. The effective start date of the appointments is August 1, 2024 or a mutually agreeable date.
The successful candidate must hold an MD degree and have licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, as well as certification in Neurology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In addition, the successful candidate must have demonstrated clinical excellence in neurology with advanced training in movement disorders, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching.
Baycrest is located in Toronto, Ontario and is home to the newly created Austin Centre for Neurology and Behavioural Support. It is fully-affiliated with the University of Toronto and plays a unique and important role in training and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows who will have the responsibility of caring for the increasing number of individuals with dementia and related cognitive and behavioural disorders. Baycrest operates over 1,000 beds across a full continuum of senior health and residential care programs with 2,000 staff and 2,000 volunteers. Baycrest offers comprehensive on-site, home-based and virtual ambulatory services that serve 10,000 clients annually. The continuum includes the newly established Austin Centre for Neurology and Behavioural Support which encompasses the Sam and Ida Ross Memory, Virtual Behavioural Medicine Program, Baycrest Movement Disorders and Spasticity Clinics, Geriatric General Neurology Clinic, and multiple sclerosis clinic. In addition, there is an acute 20-bed Behavioural Neurology Unit that provides care for individuals with neuropsychiatric symptoms in dementia, as well as a 262-bed post-acute Hospital; a 472-bed long-term care facility; a 190-suite retirement/assisted living home; and a 120-suite residence for independent older adults.
Baycrest is a world-class leader in innovation in aging, with the acclaimed Rotman Research Institute, considered one of the premier brain institutes in the world, and the Kunin-Lunenfeld Centre for Applied Research and Evaluation (KL-CARE), which supports clinical research and the application of research findings directly to patient care. In addition, Baycrest is the home base for the Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation (CABHI), which aims to develop, evaluate and disseminate innovative technologies and services relevant to the senior sector.
The Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto is one of the largest in North America, with 800 full-time faculty members, 1,000 postgraduate trainees, and 20 sub-specialty divisions located across six fully-affiliated hospitals, four community-affiliated hospitals and more than a dozen additional clinical practice sites. Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $200,000 to $250,000 (fee for service/alternate funding plan estimate) commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. Office and secretarial support for clinical service delivery will be provided without cost.
