The Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital (UHT-SMH) and the Division of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at North York General Hospital (NYGH), and the University of Toronto are inviting applications for a full-time academic rhinologist. The position will be based at Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital and North York General Hospital. The anticipated starting date for this appointment is July 1, 2024 or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate will be a full-time jointly credentialed member of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at UHT-SMH and the Division of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at NYGH and participate in the call schedules of both organizations. The candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment to the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto at a rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor, commensurate with their qualification and academic achievement.

The successful candidate is expected to have completed or be eligible for certification in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Candidates must have successfully completed fellowship training in Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base Surgery.

The individual we seek will provide tertiary level care of rhinology and anterior skull base surgery in addition to comprehensive otolaryngology in the community. The successful candidate demonstrates a commitment to excellence in surgical education and academic administrative involvement including participating in committees at the hospital and university levels. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to advance the strategic goals and vision of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto. The candidate is expected to complete a Master’s degree if not already obtained.

North York General Hospital (NYGH) is a leading community academic hospital and has been ranked as Canada’s number one community academic hospital by Newsweek Magazine. The Division of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery has a long history of providing quality comprehensive otolaryngology service and demonstrating leadership to serve the needs of North York and southern York region. The candidate is expected to be comfortable with the provision of care for the full breadth of general otolaryngology provided in the community, including general pediatric otolaryngology.

Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital (UHT-SMH) is a leading teaching and research hospital in downtown Toronto. UHT-SMH is a fully affiliated academic health sciences facility of the University of Toronto. The Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at UHT-SMH takes pride in demonstrating clinical and academic excellence in the rhinology and skull base surgery as well as laryngology. The candidate is also expected to participate and contribute to ongoing and lead new research initiatives in Rhinology at UHT-SMH.
