Position Summary The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for two full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track Lecturer positions to serve as Associate Directors of English W131 in the Composition Program and teach undergraduate writing courses. These positions carry year-round administrative responsibilities and a teaching load of four courses per year. This is a promotion track position, renewed each year during the six-year probationary period with possibility for retention and advancement to Senior Lecturer after year six and to Teaching Professor after that.
The Associate Director will join an award-winning writing program and a dynamic group of teacher-scholar colleagues invested in community-building, mentorship, and praxis-driven pedagogy. The Associate Director works closely with the Director of Composition and the graduate Assistant Directors of English W131 to develop curricula and provide instructor training and support, with core responsibilities including but not limited to: developing new curricular materials, updating course content and writing assignments, assisting with ongoing assessment of and research on the first-year writing program, providing training and supervision of graduate student instructors, facilitating workshops and staff meetings for graduate student instructors as part of the mentoring program for new graduate instructors, maintaining and updating LMS course templates for W131, serving on department committees focused on teaching and program administration, and teaching undergraduate writing courses.
Basic Qualifications Ph.D. in English, Writing Studies, Rhetoric, Literature or related field required, with graduate coursework in the teaching of writing and at least five years of experience teaching writing courses in a college or university setting (this can include graduate student teaching). Preference will be given to those with a demonstrated commitment to first-year writing and writing program administration. In addition to these commitments, we welcome candidates with related interests in one or more of the following: multilingual writing, digital rhetorics and pedagogies, anti-racist writing pedagogies, community-engaged pedagogy or service-learning, writing program assessment, and writing across the curriculum.
