Opportunity for a Lecturer to support the recruitment, training, workforce development and retention of allied health professionals in rural and remote regions
Base Salary $113,184 – $134,403 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The Broken Hill Rural Clinical School (RCS), also known as the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) is funded under the Commonwealth Department of Health’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Programme (RHMT).
As a Lecturer Allied Health (Speech pathology), you will be based at Dareton, the South West regional headquarters whilst providing supervision for speech students attending placement experience, at Wentworth, Buronga, Balranald, Coomealla and Robinvale regions.
Your primary function is to meet the RHMT program objectives by coordinating Speech Pathology undergraduate/postgraduate student clinical placements in primary schools in the Southwest Region, ensuring optimal clinical learning and community engagement experiences with the aim to encourage the students to return to the region to work following the completion of their training.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
work collaboratively with the community, state/territory health bodies, non-government organisations, universities, and other complementary organisations to support the delivery of positive training experiences for students
work with the student program team to allocate students, create timetables, and ensure student compliance with placement requirements
build and maintain relationships with multidisciplinary health care providers
contribute to collaborative research and community engagement activities
actively engage with rural communities, undertake activities to promote student recruitment and placements, and support health professionals working within these communities
About you
tertiary qualifications in Speech and Language Pathology
demonstrated experience in developing partnerships with stakeholders in a community setting
clinical knowledge and experience working in paediatrics is preferred
ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team across teaching and community/professional engagement activities
evidence of evaluation and research capability demonstrated by direct experience in research projects, health service/program evaluation or quality improvement activities
experience in student supervision, mentoring and teaching and learning
eligibility for practicing membership of Speech Pathology Australia or the equivalent professional association
experience in participation as a team member in designing, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
capacity to develop networks and relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners, and stakeholders
understanding/experience of inter-professional practice
knowledge and understanding of the key issues in rural and remote health care, the discipline and higher education sector
Due to the large geographical area serviced by this role some travel may be required to perform the duties. A valid driver’s license is therefore essential.
