The Lecturer will be required to teach, undertake research and publish in the area of optometry and vision science. The appointee will promote the Optometry program and maintain links and partnerships with relevant academic, industry and professional communities. The appointee will make an independent contribution to the School’s teaching, research, and program development whilst making a significant contribution to the development and delivery of Indigenous Health learning and assessment activities, in consultation with the School’s Indigenous Health Professional Education Team.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Maintaining deep discipline knowledge which is applied to inform unit design
• Integrating industry, clinical and/or research practice to teaching
• Leading unit teaching teams and working collaboratively with other unit teaching teams in the course
• Assisting in applying industry, clinical and/or research practice into student learning experiences and resources
• Contributing effectively to culture of educational excellence and engages collaboratively with peers
• Initiates, designs and conducts and may lead productive, high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs
• Engage collaboratively to develop novel and high-quality research or creative activities
• Widely communicates outputs to discipline(s) and the community
• Initiate, design, conduct and may lead innovation and translation into policies, frameworks, strategy, priority setting and other outcomes to create positive impact

Key selection criteria for this role:

• PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience is preferred but not essential
• Optometry qualification (eg BOptom, MOptom)
• Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or exhibitions and/or success in obtaining external research funding
• Competence in developing and delivering Indigenous Health learning and assessment activities, in consultation with the School’s Indigenous Health Professional Education Team
• Ability to make a contribution to community engagement for research and teaching
• Capacity to contribute to leadership of teaching, research and/or administration
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
• Experience in assessment of children’s vision, binocular vision and management of binocular vision disorders would be advantageous
