LECTURER, Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) (part-time, 75%), to teach three fundamental courses in anthropological archaeology to undergraduate students, most of whom have had modest or no preparation in cultural anthropology or archaeology.  Two of the courses are core subjects required by the B.S. curriculum for undergraduates majoring in Archaeology and Materials.  These are Introduction to Archaeology and Human Evolution: Data from Palaeontology, Archaeology, and Materials Science.  The third course is a culture area elective subject of the lecturer’s choice, focusing on, e.g., N. America, China, SW Asia, Mesoamerica, Andean South America. The three subjects are taught annually over the course of the Fall (September – December) and Spring (February – May) semesters.  Candidates who are engaged in an active research program and can offer field and/or lab opportunities to students are encouraged to apply.  Applicants whose research involves the analysis of archaeological specimens will have ready access to the archaeological materials laboratories of the Center for Materials Research in Archaeology and Ethnology (CMRAE).


Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a completed Ph.D. by the start of employment; a strong record of teaching experience beyond the occasional TA level.  The methodological specialty is open but the lecturer will be expected to teach a lab-based course in human evolution using casts of hominin skeletal material.  Job #21925
