The Lecturer will teach in the area of counselling in an online and face-to-face learning environment. This position is required to assist in the design of curriculum and learning materials and it is also desirable the incumbent undertake research, publish and attract research funding.

In addition to promoting the School and maintaining links and partnerships with relevant academic, industry and professional communities, the appointee will make an independent contribution to the School’s teaching, research and program development.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development of course material for new online and face-to-face counselling units
  • Teaching in the area of counselling and psychology in general but with a particular focus on counselling at the postgraduate level that is consistent with the University’s principles of teaching, learning and the student experience.
  • Developing online learning environments that are flexible, student centred and accessible and utilising appropriate technology.
  • Developing and nurturing links and partnerships with industry, professional bodies and the wider community.
  • Maintain deep discipline knowledge which is applied to inform unit design
  • Deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery
  • Integrate industry, clinical and/or research practice to teaching
  • Supervising honours and HDR students, ensuring successful and timely completions.
  • Contribute to the School and Faculty’s research activity and national profile.
  • Engaging in collaborative research projects with colleagues and postgraduate students in one of the School/Faculty’s areas of research strength.
  • Contributing to research, scholarly publication and the generation of research funding.
  • Support and may lead in applications for external competitive and other funding, and demonstrates sustained efforts
  • Performing administrative tasks commensurate with position responsibilities and contribute to processes that enable the effective operation of the School and Faculty.
  • Undertaking mentoring of more junior academic staff.

Key selection criteria for this role:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline, or Professional doctorate or masters in a relevant field and/or other relevant qualifications and experience
  • excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design
  • emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or exhibitions and/or success in obtaining external research funding
  • excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
  • Experience in mentoring junior academic staff
  • Registered psychologist (AHPRA)and/or counsellor (ACA/PACFA). *
  • Psychology Board of Australia or ACA/PACFA approved supervisor. *
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at building relationships with external organizations/agencies and/or the community. *
  • Demonstrated track record of publications in high quality journals. *
  • Applied for and/or attracted research funding or consultancy income in the area of research strength for the School of Psychology. *
