Department Summary The mission of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management is to educate the next generation of hospitality and tourism leaders who strive for excellence and embrace our diversity in a caring, innovative, and empowering community. The program offers a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management, a Bachelor of Science in Event Design and Experience Management, a Master of Science in Hospitality Management, a Master of Science in International Sustainable Tourism, and two 12-hour online Graduate Certificates in Hospitality Management, and Event and Tourism Management. The Master of Science in Hospitality Management is offered as both resident and 100% online programs. The Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) accredits the Bachelor of Science degrees.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Summary The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a faculty member at the rank of Lecturer (non-tenure track) in Event Design and Experience Management or closely aligned fields. The successful candidate will work closely with the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Department Chair and faculty members to offer an innovative curriculum utilizing the latest technology for onsite and virtual events, enhance the undergraduate experience, grow program enrollments, grow industry connections, and lead and execute signature student led events which showcase and represent the Department in an exceptional manner. The faculty member will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (if possessing a terminal degree) primarily in the Event Design and Experience Management curriculum on the Frisco campus and some courses in Hospitality Management/Event Design and Experience Management as assigned on the main UNT Denton campus; build partnerships with the hospitality industry to enhance class events, projects, jobs, and internship opportunities for students; participate in university, school, and department committees and other service. The successful candidate will be involved in internal and external collaborations and will lead student study tours. Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned master’s degree in Event Management/Hospitality Management/Hospitality Administration/; OR consideration will be given to a closely aligned masters degree with evidence of graduate coursework in the event management/hospitality field.
  • At least three years of professional event management industry experience.
  • Excellent teaching skills; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; clear devotion to students and the missions of higher education.
  • Ability to connect with industry partners particularly in events-related entities and develop those relationships for the benefit of the college and students.
  • A commitment to enhancing and nourishing a cultural climate that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion in all facets of the Department and the University.
  • Evidence of three or more years in industry experiences and connections including a record of working in the event, hospitality, club, resort, tourism, attraction, or related industries.
  • A team player who demonstrates leadership, integrity, and collegiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • Knowledge of and connections to event-related industry organizations like PCMA, MPI, IAEE, etc.
  • Possess current event-related industry certification such as Certified Meeting Planner, Certified in Exhibition Management, etc.
  • Previous experience executing events particularly corporate and fundraising events.
  • Experience/coursework in distributed learning/web-based course development and delivery.
