Position Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Biomedical engineering (BME) is a fast-growing, interdisciplinary field that integrates engineering, mathematics, medicine, and science to improve human health and quality of life. BME graduates are job-ready engineers for the medical device, health care, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries. The mission of the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is to unite engineering and medicine to improve lives. With more than 50 primary teaching and research faculty members and approximately 600 undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral students, the Joint Department is on track to realize its ambitious vision of becoming a leader in real-world results: faculty productivity, student accomplishment, and entrepreneurial success. BME students have access to the vast resources of these world-class public universities, which includes greater opportunities for collaboration with faculty, clinicians, and students in top-ranked schools of pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, veterinary medicine, and textiles.
Position Summary The lecturer will be responsible for teaching BMME 298 Biomedical Engineering Design and Manufacturing I together with its associated labs in the spring semester of 2023. This includes delivering in-person lectures that cover the course objectives as stated in the course syllabus, assessing student performance in a timely manner, coordinating clinical immersion sites, collaborating and cooperating with the NC State-based design instructors, UNC-based senior design instructor and UNC-based lab manager, supervising teaching assistants, providing help to students during scheduled office hours and all other responsibilities associated with instruction of the course. Lecture for the course is Wednesday 3:30 – 4:20. Labs meet Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 – 10:20 and 1:00 – 2:50. Attendance at labs is not required. but preparing teaching assistants to direct the labs is one of the responsibilities of this position.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Masters or PhD in Biomedical Engineering or related field
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Expertise in the subject area of the course to be taught Excellent oral and written communication skills
