The Department of Statistics at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver Campus invites application for a full-time 12 month lecturer appointment commencing January 1, 2023, or earlier. The appointment may be renewed subject to the need of the department, availability of funding, and demonstration of excellence in teaching. The terms and conditions of the lecturer appointment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.
The successful candidate will work the equivalent of teaching a total of six three-credit courses in our undergraduate program over the term of the appointment.
It is anticipated that applicants must hold a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Statistics or a related field, have prior university teaching experience, and have demonstrated potential to provide quality undergraduate instruction. Interest and aptitude in teaching our first year data-science course are required. Instructors in this course need to have, or acquire, skills in version control (e.g., via Git and GitHub), literate code documents (e.g., Jupyter or R Markdown), and R programming. Interest and aptitude in also teaching both introductory and upper-level statistics courses are strongly preferred.
Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills including co-teaching experience or aptitude and supervisory skills (e.g. TA supervision). The successful candidate will also be expected to have interest and aptitude in using active learning techniques and various educational technologies.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is subject to final budgetary approval.
