| Job Summary | The Department of Biological Sciences at East Tennessee State University is seeking a full-time non-tenure track faculty member at the rank of Lecturer to begin on August 15th, 2023. This is a 9-month, 3-year renewable appointment. This lecturer will be responsible for teaching freshman biology courses for Science majors and non-majors at the Kingsport campus and the ETSU main campus. The successful candidate will share the responsibility for supervising the associated laboratories, coordinating the graduate teaching assistants, biennially reviewing and editing the laboratory materials, and teaching an upper-level course in the lecturer’s area of expertise as needed. In addition, the lecturer also could teach one or more courses during the summer months for additional compensation. The Department of Biological Sciences currently is comprised of thirteen faculty members engaged in a wide range of research programs and serves approximately 450 majors and over 40 M.S. and Ph.D. students. ETSU enrolls approximately 14,000 students and offers more than thirty master’s degree programs and eleven doctoral degree programs. Candidates for this position are required to have a Master’s in Life Sciences (preferably in molecular or organismal biology), but a Ph.D. is preferred. Evidence of excellence in post-secondary biology teaching, in a large classroom environment, is favored. This individual also will be expected to participate in the undergraduate course, curriculum, and program development. The candidate is expected to be a full-time faculty member in the department and apply innovative approaches to addressing the academic needs of pre-professional and biology students.
