Cardiff University, College of Biomedical and Life Sciences, School of Healthcare Sciences invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging.

We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to carry out teaching and supervision of undergraduate diagnostic radiography students. The post holder will inspire students, enabling students to develop the required skills and knowledge within their field of study.

This post provides an exciting opportunity to make a real contribution to the teaching and training of students studying at the School of Healthcare Sciences, Cardiff University.

The post holder will undertake and oversee the academic/clinical education and training of Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging students and will also contribute to other areas of School activity in the undergraduate (both pre-registration and post-registration) and postgraduate education of midwives, nurses and allied professionals.

The School of Healthcare Sciences provides a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate education that directly improves health outcomes and healthcare for patients and families. This includes courses and research in Midwifery, Nursing (Adult, Child and Mental Health), Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and, Radiography (diagnostic and therapy).

We are recruiting to one position and welcome applicants from either a Teaching and Scholarship or Teaching and Research background.

The position is full-time (35 hours per week) and is open-ended.

Salary:
£39,347 – £44,263 per annum (Grade 6)
£49,794 – £54,395 per annum (Grade 7)
Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE (for Teaching and Scholarship post)
Contribute to the facilitation of learning and scholarship activities within the profession of Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging, including the development, delivery, assessment and evaluation of modules/programmes for the Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging programme within the undergraduate and post qualification provision within the School.  Offer support to students via the personal tutee system, supervise students’ research projects and to carry out administrative duties within the work area as required. To pursue excellence in teaching and scholarship and to inspire others to do the same.

JOB PURPOSE (for Teaching and Research post)
To deliver high-quality and research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and contribute to the research record of the School through commitment to carrying out research leading to the publishing of high-quality research. Contribute to the facilitation of learning and scholarship activities within the profession of Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging, including the development, delivery, assessment and evaluation of modules/programmes for the occupational therapy programme within the undergraduate and post qualification provision within the School.  Offer support to students via the personal tutee system, supervise students’ research projects and to carry out administrative duties within the work area as required. To pursue excellence in research, teaching and enterprise and to inspire others to do the same

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching (for both Teaching and Scholarship, and Teaching and Research posts)

  • Design and deliver teaching programmes for courses and contribute to module development as part of a module team
    • Grade 7: independently contribute to module and course development and lead modules
  • Inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of a mentor / module leader and develop skills in assessment methods and in providing constructive feedback to students.        
  • Supervise the work of students including the supervision of Undergraduate and Masters students
  • Supply pastoral care through both acting as a Personal Tutor and providing support and guidance to students, building and establishing trust

Scholarship (for the Teaching and Scholarship post)

  • Contribute to scholarship in the area of work through participation in conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of individual scholarship 
  • Engage in scholarly activity through journal articles and/or outputs which advance knowledge within the area of work
  • Contribute to scholarship through interdisciplinary working with individuals and teams within, and external to, the wider university community
  • Carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking papers and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in committee work

Research (for the Teaching and Research post)

  • To conduct research within diagnostic radiography & imaging and contribute to the overall research performance of the School and University by the production of measurable outputs including bidding for funding, publishing in national academic journals and conferences, and the recruitment and supervision of postgraduate research students.
    • Grade 7: contribute to internationally recognised research performance
  • To develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research including research funding proposals
    • Grade 7: independently develop research objectives, acting as PI as required
  • To give conference/seminar papers at a local and national level
    • Grade 7: present at international level
  • To participate in School research activities.

  • Postgraduate Degree at PHD Level or relevant industrial experience. Current registration with the Health Care Professions Council 

                   Grade 7: Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification or

  • An established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within the following research fields:
  • Diagnostic Radiography
  • Medical imaging
  • Teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level

  • Knowledge of current status of research in specialist field

                Grade 7: growing national reputation within field

  • Proven ability to publish in national journals

                Grade 7: proven substantial record of publications in high-impact national journals

  • Proven ability to be successful in competitive research funding
