Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Human Development and Family Sciences in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University seeks Lecturer applicants. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in aging and lifespan as well as other core HDFS classes as needed. All potential teaching is on an “as needed basis”. The appointment fraction and duration will depend upon the need.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in education or closely related field.

One year of demonstrated successful teaching experience or comparable professional experience in an educational setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate or ABD in human development, gerontology or closely related field.

Additional years teaching experience in specific area.

Teaching experience at the college/university level.


Department/Program & College Description:

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) at Iowa State University (ISU) has 5 unique undergraduate majors (Early Childhood Education; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; Financial Counseling and Planning; Human Development and Family Studies; and Early Education Programming-this fifth major is an online offering). The department houses a PhD program in HDFS, a Master of Science in HDFS, and Masters of Family and Consumer Sciences degree with participation in three focus areas via the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (fully online Masters Programs) in youth development, family financial planning, and gerontology. The department is also centrally involved in an interdisciplinary PhD degree in Gerontology.

Students in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) get hands-on experience that will prepare them to help develop families that are socially and financially stable. HDFS is the science of how individuals and families develop behaviorally, cognitively, economically, emotionally, physically, and socially throughout the lifespan. You’ll learn an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge development and application to promote positive development and expand human potential as well as the importance of diversity, inclusiveness, and social justice.

The department has over 5Million dollars in research and outreach funded yearly
