Job Summary Dalhousie Medical School attracts some of Canada’s top students, physicians, and health researchers. With campuses in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick, and over 100 teaching sites across the Maritimes, we provide aspiring doctors and health researchers with the highest caliber of education. Reporting to the Director, Resident & Student Affairs, the Learner Liaison Officer will create and implement organizational and communications strategies for all learners within the Resident & Student Affairs office by developing strong working relationships with learners across all four years (Med1, Med2, Med3 and Med4) and throughout residency.
Key Responsibilities
  • In close collaboration with the Resident & Student Affairs team, develop detailed annual organizational and communication strategic plans, using in-depth knowledge of accreditation standards, learner needs, and the expectations and requirements of each learner year.
  • Adjust plans on an ongoing basis to meet unexpected needs and demands. This requires communicating regularly throughout the year with learners using a variety of methods to identify concerns and expectations that need to be addressed, and consulting with the Resident & Student Affairs team regarding resources and initiatives.
  • Generate the engagement and commitment of key contributors for all projects being organized, including participation from the maximum number of learners, through 1:1 and group outreach. This may include creating brochures, social media, newsletters, website, recognizing learners will use and engage with various mediums.
  • Build key partnerships and working relationships with student leaders and faculty partners, and liaise with Faculty of Medicine offices and organizations to identify, develop and promote wellness initiatives in collaboration with the Resident & Student Affairs team.
  • Design and develop a variety of communication documents detailing services and supports provided by Resident & Student Affairs, ensuring alignment with stated accreditation standards. Ensure documents are accessible and provide clear communication to learners.
Note This position will require periodic evening and week-end work due to learner schedules.
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field plus, approximately three to five years’ of related experience, preferably in a post-secondary education, health care or government environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience working with adult learners preferred. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals on a 1:1 and group level, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have high level of attention to detail while managing multiple projects.
  • Experience using social media in a communications role.

Assets
  • Experience with various software packages including Canva and/or other design software.
  • Experience with website design.
