OSE is a Student Affairs area of the Community, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence unit. To realize its mission, OSE provides strong academic advising and guidance, culturally sustaining support through ethnic affinity Centers, Mentoring Programs, and multiple opportunities for intercultural collaboration and leadership development.

Summary of Duties:

As a member of a cross-cultural team, the Leadership Coordinator will assist in carrying out the Office of Student Equity’s mission of facilitating ” …the best undergraduate experience for multicultural, first generation, and other underrepresented students through the provision of culturally relevant services to enhance their learning and development and foster their successful transition, adjustment, persistence, achievement, and graduation”  from Washington State University.
 

The scope of responsibilities includes working closely with the Office of Student Equity (OSE) staff in the implementation of cross-center cultural programming, initiatives, and events; The scope of responsibilities includes providing comprehensive administrative support for the successful operation of the office, high level of service to students, timely and professional correspondence with internal and external constituents, and support of OSE wide programming and area specific programs and initiatives; coordinating outreach and visitations for the office; leading the selection, training, and supervision of OSE Student Office Assistants; and assisting with administrative office tasks. assisting in the coordinating and assisting with the development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services to address the needs and potential of students; leading premier OSE events including, but not limited to, Conexion, Fall Multicultural Graduation Celebration, and Spring Multicultural Graduation Celebration. Some night and weekend work is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Experience counseling/advising students in a higher education environment

  • Evidence of successful experience with programmatic organizational skills; planning, implementation, and evaluation

  • Demonstrated cross-cultural competency and commitment to developing cross-cultural competency skills; knowledge of and direct experience working with underrepresented, first generation, and/or high financial need students in a higher education setting

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student development, factors impacting underrepresented student college experience, and effective academic and mentoring practices

  • Experience creating and conducting presentations

  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office programs

  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and constituents

  • Demonstrated; knowledge of and experience working with underrepresented, first generation, and/or high need college students

  • Demonstrated familiarity with transition, persistence, achievement, and graduation issues for underrepresented student populations

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in higher education or related field.

  • Demonstrated supervisory skills; experience facilitating professional development, training, supervision, and evaluation of personnel.

  • Bilingual skills: Verbal and written communication skills in English and in a language other than English.

  • Ability to form working relationships within the office, university, and outside agencies.

  • Ability and appropriate attitude to work as a member of a team.
