Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide preschool instruction for a morning and afternoon session Monday through Thursday.  Additionally, teacher will create a daily literacy-based lesson plan inclusive of Nevada Literacy Program requirements and Nevada Pre-Kindergarten Content Standards, with team members.  Position requires teacher to work 40 hours per week under the supervision of the Great Basin College Child and Family Center Director.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or in Elementary Education (Must have an Early Childhood Endorsement and/or an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education if degree is in Elementary Education.) OR

  • Must have successfully completed 18 or more credits in HDFS/ECE courses while currently declared as a major in an ECE AAS, AA, or Bachelor of Arts program from an accredited college, or equivalent training required by the NV Bureau of Child Care Licensing. 

  • Two years’ work experience related to the development of children ages 3 to 8 years of age.

  • Applicants must be physically able to perform duties including frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, typing, prolonged standing or sitting.

Responsibilities:

  • Create daily literacy-based lesson plans with team members following Great Basin College Child and Family Center curriculum.  Daily lesson plans will be written to include all components of the Nevada Literacy Program requirements and the Nevada Pre-Kindergarten Content Standards.

  • Set-up and maintain an age-appropriate, center-based learning environment which meets the requirements of NAEYC Accreditation, as well as the ECERS-3 and ELLCO assessments.

  • Abide by the guidelines of the Nevada Early Childhood Education Comprehensive Grant.

  • Supervise a Teaching Team and work cooperatively with that team in the planning and implementation of the daily activities in the classroom.

  • Work cooperatively with the Program Assistant to ensure that all children’s files, assessments, home visits, newsletters, and parent tracking forms are completed in a timely, organized, and accurate manner.

  • Conduct teacher/parent conferences and/or home visits twice a year.

  • Organize monthly parent/teacher trainings or activities a minimum of once a month.

  • Instruct morning and afternoon preschool sessions as requested by the Director or Designated Person in Charge. 

  • Work a minimum of 40 hours per week under the supervision of the Great Basin College Child and Family Center Director.

  • Follow all guidelines as required by the Great Basin College Child and Family Center Staff Handbook and adhere to all licensing standards as set forth by the Nevada Bureau of Services for Child Care.

  • Participate in college-wide committees and activities as appropriate

  • Other duties as assigned

Salary and Benefits:

This is a Non-Tenure Track, “B” (9 month) Contract.

Annual salary range is $25,000 – $40,000 commensurate with experience and education.

GBC is NOT able to support Visa applications for employment at the college. Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States to be considered.

Nevada System of Higher Education benefits package includes a 401(a) defined contribution retirement plan with employees contributing 15.50 % and a matching 15.50% from the employer, medical/dental/vision

plan, benefit time, 11 paid holidays, and tuition waiver at Nevada System of Higher Education colleges for the employee and family.  There is no state income tax in Nevada.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.  Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment.  Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.

An online background check will be required of the selected applicant; a third party administrator will perform this.
