Lead Director of Development – Corporate and Foundation Relations

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Advancement and Alumni Engagement Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations team partners with schools and units across Emory University and Emory Healthcare to provide corporate and foundation fundraising and engagement through the development of mutually beneficial relationships. By working with faculty and university leadership, they create awareness of Emory’s distinctive strengths with a range of philanthropic organizations. This position will report to the Executive Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Develops and implements strategies for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals, corporations, and foundations for gifts of $100K – $1M to support education, patient care, and research programs for a department, school, or unit. Solicits gifts of $100K – $1M+ in support of the school/unit.
  • Manages a portfolio of prospects through an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship calls to donors and new prospects in support of strategic priorities.
  • May develop school/unit strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Builds relationships among prospective donors, alumni, and volunteers to support programs and priorities.
  • Builds relationships with faculty, administrators, deans, and division/University leadership to develop, interpret, and align priorities of the school/unit with donor goals/interests.
  • Partners with central advancement offices to ensure that potential gift prospects are properly qualified, cultivated, and stewarded.
  • May develop and oversee writing/production of appropriate fundraising materials including, but not limited to, case statements, brochures, solicitation letters, gift proposals, appreciation letters, donor reports, and campaign status reports.
  • Ensures the maintenance of information on selected donors and prospects including contact reports in CRM system.
  • Communicates in ways that are donor-centric, while furthering the mission of Emory.
  • Travels to meet with donors as needed.
  • May manage the operations of the department/program and budgets.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITONAL JOB DETAILS:

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Lead Director may be required to:

  • Meet division metrics for visit preparation, qualification, contact reports, visits, referrals, and accurate coding using the CRM system.
  • Represent the department, school/unit, division, or University.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree and six years of experience in higher education, development, fundraising, healthcare, or equivalent experience in a non-profit institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful candidates will possess experience as lead solicitor, closing gifts of $100,000+ and $1M+ from prospects.
  • Prior experience working with comprehensive campaigns, alumni engagement, or a university setting.
  • Experience working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as effective presentation skills.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Capacity to lead and develop a team’s skills through effective feedback and coaching, motivating and empowering colleagues while being institutionally minded, strategic, and impactful.
  • Master’s or Ph.D. and knowledge of academic research principles and research integrity and intellectual property policy; successful track record of managing investor, donor, client, or collaborator relationships toward increased activity and revenue.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
