An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Large Animal Technician to join our School of Veterinary Medicine, providing care to our large animals and supporting our clinical skills-based teaching programmes.

The School of Veterinary Medicine is a truly inspirational and fascinating environment to work in. Delivering teaching to over 750 undergraduate students training to be the veterinary professionals of the future, the research of our academic colleagues focuses on understanding the factors which impact the health of both animals and humans. With investment of over £45m, our facilities and those of the wider University present a wonderful backdrop for the right person to contribute to wider society and develop their skills and career.

If you are enthusiastic and keen to join a School of Veterinary Medicine that is motivated to do things differently and open up a world of new possibilities, we would be delighted to hear from you.

About the role

In this role you will join a team of technical staff delivering a high standard of animal welfare and husbandry to large animals housed within the School of Veterinary Medicine. You will be working predominantly with horses, cattle, and sheep, so experience, good handling skills, and knowledge are essential for the role.

The postholder will also provide technical support for teaching activities, including offering advice and assisting in practical demonstrations to our students during practical animal handling classes.

The role will follow a predetermined work plan, with flexible working between 7am and 5pm Mon-Fri.

About you

We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in animal husbandry and a practical approach to work. You will have experience in farm animal/equine care and husbandry, likely gained from working in an equine environment, large animal environment or veterinary clinical environment. You may also have a relevant degree or vocational qualifications in animal care. You will also have a solid understanding of relevant health and safety issues and requirements.

What we can offer

In addition to salary, you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days holiday PLUS 7 university closure days and bank holidays (pro rata), a great pension, discount to Surrey Sports Park, childcare assistance, and excellent development opportunities.
