Description

The Jones Center at Ichauway Landscape Ecology Lab invites applications for a full-time (40 hours per week), Seasonal Research Technician. This employee will assist in the Landscape Ecology Lab (https://lab.jonesctr.org/cannon/) with a variety of field and lab duties including (1) forest inventory and mapping, (2) assessment of post-fire tree mortality, (3) sampling fuels and monitoring post-fire recovery, and (4) deployment of micrometeorological sensors and data management. Additional duties, if qualified, may include assistance with terrestrial lidar scanning and conducting guided independent research. We strongly encourage applications from historically underrepresented groups.

This position will begin as early as January 2, 2023. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt until the position is filled. Application deadline is November 18, 2022.

Job Requirements: The successful candidate must be willing to conduct strenuous physical activity (walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting) under demanding field conditions (i.e., heat, high humidity, heights, and insects). Candidate must be able to conduct sample preparation and analysis tasks in a lab setting. We will expect the candidate to work individually and as a team on a broad array of forestry and environmental monitoring tasks.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, forestry, natural resources management, or a related field is preferred but not required. Previous experience in the field of ecology, botany, forestry, or natural resources is preferred.
