Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for one tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, in Comparative Politics, specializing in Law and Public Policy. We seek an active scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research, interested in contributing significantly to our vibrant academic community. The academic rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will commence on August 1, 2024.
Lakehead’s Political Science Department is known for its high-quality teaching and programs, and for professors who invest in their students’ success. Together, students and faculty study Canadian and International politics through an examination of the ideas, practices, structures and powers that shape and govern our participation in political communities.
Responsibilities of the successful candidate shall include:
• Teach undergraduate courses in Comparative Politics, with a focus on Law and Public Policy, covering topics such as policy analysis, local, provincial, and federal governance structures, and the interaction between law and politics in Canada.
• Conduct original research in Comparative Politics, publishing scholarly work in leading peer-reviewed journals and presenting findings at national and international conferences.
• Mentor and advise undergraduate students, guiding them in research projects, thesis preparation, and career development.
• Participate actively in departmental and university service, contributing to curriculum development, committee work, and academic initiatives.

Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in Political Science or a related field, with a specialization in Comparative Politics, Law, Public Policy, or a relevant subfield.
• Demonstrated expertise in comparative methodologies, with a focus on legal and policy analysis across different political systems and regions.
• A strong record of scholarly research, including publications in leading academic journals, and the potential for securing external funding.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching, evidenced by teaching evaluations, syllabi, and innovative pedagogical approaches.
• Ability to contribute to the diversity and inclusivity of the academic community through research, teaching, and service.
