Laboratory Technologist (2-year contract)

Job Description

Our laboratory has been focusing on research in chronic kidney disease in children and we have several research projects covering the immunology and genetic aspects of the disease. The role of a laboratory technologist is to provide technical and administrative support for these research projects. The duties and responsibilities of the laboratory technologist are as follow:

Research

  • Perform research experiments which include but not limited to cell culture, Western blot, RT-PCR, gene cloning as well as experimental animal works.
  • Prepare reagents, solutions and media for experiments.
  • Keep detailed logs of all work-related activities.
  • Analyse experimental data, present and interpret the results.
  • Plan further experiments under guidance (for degree holder).
  • Candidates will learn basic skills and techniques related to animal care, breeding concepts and basic molecular work and tissue cultures. There will be on-the-job training and supervision.
  • Administration

  • Procurement of laboratory consumables, recording and tracking purchases, and submission of invoices for payments.
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment repairs and maintenance services.
  • Establish and periodic review of Laboratory Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) & Risk Assessment (RA).
  • Qualifications

  • Diploma in Life Sciences or its equivalent
  • Experience in cell culture, protein and gene expression techniques and molecular biology is preferred
  • Must be willing to handle animals
  • Ability to speak and write well in English
  • Willing to learn with a positive attitude
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and ability to multi-task
  • Able to work well independently as well as a team, and willing to perform shift work when required
