Laboratory Technician, Summer Student in Toronto, Ontario

OVERVIEW

The Laboratory Technician, Summer Student is a member of the Toronto Redpath Quality Group and reports directly to the Quality Supervisor. The role is primarily responsible for managing all aspects of daily testing protocols by effectively planning and coordinating their time to ensure accurate analysis.

DETAILED ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES

• Wide array of testing for granulated sugar, liquid sugars, icing sugars and soft sugars

• Testing of in-process samples and other samples as assigned

• Laboratory equipment verification and troubleshooting

• Documentation and analysis of results

• Assists in preparation of necessary reports and trending information

• Participates in all quality, safety and environmental training

• Practices and promotes GMPs and plant safety goals

• Interacts with process and packaging supervision on issues related to sampling and documentation

• Interacts with QA team members to ensure performance of various testing equipment

• Ensures performance of various testing equipment and accuracy of generated results

• Other tasks as identified

  WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Enrolled in college or university program with chemistry or food science (or equivalent) focus

• Capable of demonstrating good laboratory skills and techniques

• Proficient computer skills in standard Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, Visio)

• Knowledge of Quality Assurance/Control practices and procedures

  ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

• Able to follow instructions

• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in English

• Must be capable of troubleshooting and resolving issues in fast paced manufacturing environment

• Provides feedback on trends to quality management

• Works closely with other laboratory staff in order to maintain efficient testing, clean working environment
