 Directs daily laboratory operations of a division, department, function, or program. Conducts and manages quality assurance and quality control and instructs staff on quality control and analytical procedures. Develops independent design projects and laboratory procedures and evaluates new products. Writes grant applications. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations.
The Translational Neuro Oncology Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh’s Hillman Cancer Center is hiring an experienced Laboratory Manager for our human cancer biology program. This is a permanent, full-time position. Our lab is a dynamic, fast-paced, NCI-funded group that focuses on translating metabolic vulnerabilities in malignant brain tumors to therapeutics. Our track record includes multiple drugs that have gone from preclinical development in our lab to trial. Our work has been published in Cancer Cell, Neuro Oncology, Nature Medicine, and Nature. We are seeking staff that have a strong work ethic and want to contribute to our mission. Preference will be given to Biologist applicants with extensive experience in molecular and cell biology and management in high-level science with a proven track record of productivity. Cell biology experience (westerns, ELISA, flow cytometry), with emphasis on stem cell culture, CRISPR/cloning technique, intracranial injection/murine experience, and at least entry level grasp of bioinformatics. The candidate will direct daily operations for our Program, and supervise two or more full time lab members and staff and scheduling. They will develop and design projects and procedures independently with input from the PI. Grant writing and manuscript writing is expected. Time logs, protocols, and compliance of scientific and institutional protocols are expected. Applicants without recent hands-on cell biology experience will not be considered. This role is intended for scientists who have completed a PhD and have more than 10 years of experience. An important responsibility in this role will involve mentorship and supervision of more junior lab members including students.
