The Opportunity

This position is responsible for providing all laboratory support for Organic Chemistry (CHM2211L, CHM3215L) teaching labs. Must coordinate with the instructor of record, GTAs, and Laboratory Technicians to provide materials and equipment for successful completion of teaching lab goals.

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain open communication between stakeholders to understand and support the goals of the Organic Chemistry teaching labs.

  • Secure course syllabi and procure necessary materials to provide for each experiment.

  • Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals, consumables, and glassware for Organic Chemistry labs.

  • Prepare solutions and reagents as needed.

  • Safely handle all chemicals and properly dispose of hazardous waste per Environmental Health and Safety protocols.

  • Ensure GTAs are properly trained and adhering to lab safety policies.

  • Ensure labs are clean a prepared for each lab section.

  • Observe labs throughout the day to see that labs are running smoothly and safely.

  • Assist in developing new experiments, troubleshooting current experiments, and updating lab setup manuals.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 0+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to respond and make decisions quickly, and pivot in a constantly changing environment.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for interacting with a wide range of faculty, administrators, staff, vendors, and students.

  • Ability to handle pressure situations with diplomacy. 

  • Ability to use computers for e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet operations, etc.

  • Experience with handling chemicals and following safety protocols.

  • Experience with scientific instruments.
