Job Description Summary
To participate in the day-to day operations of an exciting research program and to investigate functional differences between newborn and adult innate immune systems in the context of vaccine development. The lab is a growing, collegial environment dedicated to enhancing the health of children.
The position involves working with cells isolated from patient samples. The individual is required to have a flexible schedule, including evenings and some weekends.
Organizational Status
The individual will report directly to the Lab Manager. The individual must also work in association with research staff and trainees to carry out studies.
Work Performed
1. Tissue Culture Techniques
-Aseptic technique and preparation of sterile media and other reagents
-Isolation of cells from blood samples
-Maintenance of frozen cell repository
2. Recording experimental data according to good laboratory practice
3. General laboratory duties as required
-Wash bottles and autoclave the lab waste.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Under general supervision performs a variety of routine but complicated tasks. Failure to do so with due diligence would compromise samples that require a large number of resources to prepare, store and analyze.
Supervision Received
Lab manager will provide close supervision and training during the initial period of employment while techniques are learned and whenever new methods are explored. Once training is complete the individual should be able to work with basic supervision, although help will always be available for problem solving.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
High School graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.1 year experience in laboratory techniques preferred Good computer skills. Ability to follow complicated instructions. Background in cellular biology is an asset.
