Under minimal supervision, provides skilled care and handling of laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner. Primary working areas include standard housing areas as well as specialized areas including but not limited to:  housing rodents area, biohazardous areas, animal colonies requiring specialized procedures.

Job Duties

  • Feeds and waters animals.
  • Changes animal caging as scheduled, sanitizing rooms, equipment and hallways.
  • Maintains accurate animal health records.
  • Conducts daily animal health checks.
  • Performs daily animal census.
  • Ensures that activities are in compliance with AAALAC standards.
  • Orders and transports laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Detailed record keeping and log documentation.
  • Signs multiple husbandry logs.
  • Performs Transfer Agent duties accordingly.
  • Ability to work independently.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills (e.g. email, Excel, Word).
