Responsibilities

As a laboratory assistant you will be a member of a diverse, agile team responsible for biological specimen receipt, identification verification, processing and storage. In addition, you will perform a variety of clerical, processing, and other laboratory duties that include maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning. You will actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

This position is located at the Superior Drive Support Center where immediate parking is available.

*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to apply for other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of laboratory functions, medical terminology, a background in science and 1-2 years medical experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations and other office equipment desired.
  • Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling.
  • Must be organized, able to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess good human relations skills and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments.
  • Requires the ability to be attentive to details and to adhere to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents and infectious agents.

Compensation Detail

Required education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The pay range for this position is $17.63 – $23.67 per hour.

Monday – Friday, rotating shifts of 7:30am – 4:00pm and 9:00am – 5:30pm. 1 day every 2 weeks will be 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
