The consultant shall undertake the following outputs: • Prepare for and conduct consultations on the situation of child and youth victims on terrorism, focusing on children recruited and exploited by terrorist groups in Pakistan. • Elaborate report on consultations including recommendations on the treatment of children and youth victims of recruitment and exploitation by terrorist groups, building on the lessons learned from the STRIVE Juvenile project. • Provide input and oversight for the development of tailored educational tools for children, families and communities and the development and implementation of a tailored dissemination strategy for the tools in the selected LGAs. • Organize, prepare and follow up on mentorship sessions for 32 Youth Peace Champions.Work LocationHome-based with potential travel to Pakistan.Expected duration02/09/2024 – 31/12/2024Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Juvenile Justice Expert will provide support in promoting youth and community engagement in the project in Nigeria and Pakistan.Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, criminology or equivalent academic preparation in the field with adequate focus on international law, human rights and/or criminal justice is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Minimum of 10 years of professional working experience in conducting assessments, research and other interventions on Juvenile Justice Systems, child protection, as well as experience with child and youth participation in project design and implementation is required. Excellent analytical skills and ability to summarize disparate information in a clear and concise manner is required. Ability to create organizational work plans based on high level targets is required. Excellent knowledge in developing and applying research system, tools and plans is desirable. Extensive experience in reviewing documents, conduct reviews, and undertake independent study as well as ability to identify and assess issues is desirable. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines is desirable.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English with excellent drafting and communication skills is required.
