Offer DescriptionYOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIESWe are seeking a motivated individual to join a research project in collaboration with an established industrial partner. This exciting opportunity aims at exploring the potential of integrated photonics in wide-bandgap materials.You will engage in a range of activities involving the design, fabrication and testing of photonic integrated components and circuits.This position also offers the opportunity of pursuing a PhD to further enhance your expertise, while working on innovative solutions that are directly adopted by industry.If you are passionate about integrated photonics and eager to make an impact, we invite you to apply!Your tasks will include:

  • Development of advanced integrated photonics components and circuits
  • Literature review and state-of-the-art
  • Concept and design of functional components aligned with material properties
  • Use of dedicated photonics and multi-physics simulation tools (e.g. Ansys Lumerical, Comsol)
  • Layout of complex photonic integrated circuits (Luceda IPKISS)
  • Dedicated fabrication processes development
  • Characterization of integrated components
  • Dissemination of research results through peer-reviewed journals and participation in international level conferences
  • Results reporting and communication with industrial partner
  • Support unit members with photonics design related tasks

  • You hold a master’s degree in Engineering (Photonics, Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunication) or Physics
  • Up to 5 years of relevant experience required.
  • You have deep understanding of math, physics and electromagnetic wave propagation.
  • You can prove your programming skills. Python language preferred.
  • You can clearly communicate and share the results of your work (use of basic Windows Office tools required).
  • You are a fluent English speaker.
  • Preferred skills:
  • Basic knowledge of integrated photonics
  • Previous experience in design and/or testing of photonic integrated circuits
  • Clean room experience for microfabrication
  • You are highly motivated as well as goal and deadline oriented
  • Team player with good communication skills

Depending on which variant is chosen (Junior Scientist / PhD position), different conditions apply:Junior Scientist:This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) starting in occupational group E. We offer competitive salaries and additional benefits based on your experience and qualifications. For this position, we offer a permanent contract and your minimum monthly salary starts with EUR 3.827, paid 14 times a year.PhD position:This position is advertised in accordance with the collective agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA).
