Holder of this position in the Office of Academic Support works closely with the Academic Services Manager and Librarian. The assistant would help in the efficient day to day running of the Library and help with other academic services. This position requires departmental teamwork, appropriate consideration of NYU Florence values and priorities (including diversity, inclusion, equity, affordability, and sustainability), and a positive service orientation while performing all duties
Library assistant – 70%
To help students and faculty locate books and find material online.
To check books in and out at the front desk.
To sort and shelve books according to their classification.
To maintain records of books taken out and books brought back.
To catalogue new arrivals.
To organize the repair of damaged books.
To inspect the condition of books before and after check-out to ascertain any damage.
To manage inquiries over the counter and via email or telephone.
To instruct students and faculty on library resources, reference and reserve materials, and catalogs.
To assist in conducting library classes and e-resource tutorials and workshops.
Other general duties – 30%
May be asked to assist on academic field trips, site visits and at program events throughout the whole academic year (occasionally beyond regular hours)
To cover the front office duties when needed (managing students and faculty requests)
To perform translations when needed
To carry out other miscellaneous administrative tasks as required by the Assistant Director for Academic Services (i.e. orientation and check-in support etc.)
To proctor tests/exams and make up exams as needed
Required Education:
Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree is required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidates should have excellent English and Italian language skills both written and spoken. Successful candidates must show evidence of their ability to legally work in Italy.
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree is preferred
Preferred Experience:
Candidates should have a working knowledge of American Higher Education Institutions
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidates with strong digital skills and digital media production
Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data in NYU systems and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
