Position Summary Bryant University seeks a Journalist a to join the growing University Marketing and Communication team.
As a general assignment reporter, the journalist role covers news, accomplishments, events, and announcements that sustain and advance Bryant’s strong brand reputation. The journalist role creates and publishes print and digital copy and images for use on Bryant’s owned content channels, including Bryant News website, Bryant print publications, and Bryant social media channels.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Participate in daily brainstorming sessions to establish goals for producing editorial content and art that advance Bryant’s strong brand reputation.
  • Contribute to editorial and newsroom meetings by providing new and unique story ideas, providing feedback on others’ ideas, and working with the content team to ensure that all facets of the Bryant community and culture are represented in both print and digital content.
  • Research, reports, writes, fact checks, and publishes one or more assigned stories per day as assigned by the Deputy Editorial Director, and/or the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications. Editorial stories include thought leadership pieces connected to current news trends; profiles of students, faculty, and alumni; news coverage of university events and announcements; and other creative pieces that amplify the University’s strategic plan and objectives.
  • Take and edit photos and/or video to support assigned stories with direction from appropriate members of the content team.
  • Prepare stories and artwork for publication online in Bryant’s content management system (Drupal).
  • Contribute articles to Bryant publications as needed and directed by the Deputy Editorial Director.
  • Research, compiles, and writes articles relating to Bryant’s programs and initiatives; tracks alumni developments and solicits news; follows trends in the higher education, business and healthcare industries.
  • Attend events and happenings on campus, to determine coverage and story angles.
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications This position is best filled by an individual with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in communications, English, journalism, or other relevant field with a minimum of 3-5 years of related professional experience. The candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills along with demonstrated experience in editing and proofreading. They must have strong photojournalism and social media skills along with a proficient level of video skills. The individual will have strong computer skills, including proficiency in content management systems(including WordPress), photo and video editing software, and the Microsoft Office Suite. The candidate will have the ability to work with a wide array of constituents and be a team player and a strong collaborator.
