John Cole Scholarship

In 2023, UniSQ will offer one John Cole Scholarship to support a student continuing their studies in a bachelor’s degree program (including dual degree programs).

Established in 2022 from donations from many donors, this award recognises Professor John Cole AO’s long and celebrated career.

The award supports a student from Professor Cole’s home region of the South Burnett with their continuing studies.

Value

The scholarship will have a maximum value of $1000 to be paid in one instalment. 
Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • be a resident of the South Burnett Regional Council, or Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council Local Government Areas (defined by postcodes 4314, 4605, 4606, 4608, 4610, 4611, 4612, 4613, 4615)
  • be continuing their studies at UniSQ in a bachelor’s degree program (including dual degree programs) in Study Period 1 2023 (i.e., Semester 1 2023)
  • have, as at the release of results for Semester 2 2022:
    • a minimum of 4 study units completed and credited towards their current program
    • a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 4.0
  • be enrolled in a minimum of 3 study units in Study Period 1 2023 (i.e., Semester 1 2023)
  • be enrolled on-campus, external or online.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • submit a personal statement (500 words maximum) outlining:
    • your current focus and how you will make the most of your remaining studies
    • your reflections on your studies at UniSQ to date
    • how you see yourself as a future professional within your field
    • how you value working and studying within your local community.
  • provide evidence you are a resident of the South Burnett Regional Council, or Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council Local Government Areas (defined by postcodes 4314, 4605, 4606, 4608, 4610, 4611, 4612, 4613, 4615) as directed in the application process.
  • provide evidence you have an income at or below the financial threshold limits  as directed in the application process.

*Applicants will also be assessed on academic achievement.

Please Note: If an applicant holds other UniSQ awarded scholarships, this may be taken into consideration in selection. There are some scholarships that cannot be held together.
