The JSEC is an interdisciplinary centre which offers doctoral training in several programmes:
The principal research focus is interdisciplinary, in line with our conviction that answers to research problems related to social and economic change will definitely benefit from insights offered by neighbouring disciplines. An existing lacuna in a sometimes restricted disciplinary solution can thus often be closed. Our preference for an interdisciplinary approach, however, does not deny the disciplinary strengths in identifying problems and suggesting promising solutions.
Different types of courses are derived from the aims of the doctoral teaching programme. Courses are offered either by the collaborative centre/institution (e.g., graduate colleges) or cross centre/institution. The programme is organised in modules, represented in credit points (ECTS). All classes should be attended in the first two years of the PhD studies.
Doctoral candidates at Friedrich Schiller University Jena have the possibility to enrol. Enrolment is not compulsory, but it offers a whole range of advantages.
Semester fee (student services and student self-government) including semester ticket for free use of public transport: 245.90 EUR per semester and a one-off fee of 20 EUR for a multifunctional student ID card (“Thoska”) [as of May 2022, subject to change]
Students need approximately 700 to 770 EUR per month for rent, food, health insurance, books and personal items. Additionally, please see https://www.uni-jena.de/en/Jena+living+international .
